i grew up riding our little 13ft whaler in the ipswich & essex bays. one summer, after our annual trip to have lunch at farnham’s by boat (iykyk), our caravan of friends on boats found a little marsh island to rest & digest. it was about mid-tide & we realized that some of the marsh had clay deposits. we lathered our whole bodies & gave ourselves a genuine ‘mud bath spa’ experience (evidenced in the picture).
i took a chunk of clay home, crumpled it into bits, let it dry & ground it into a fine clay…. by hand! very time consuming, but worth it. thus was created the marsh mud mask. mixed with our honey, this mask won’t dry out your skin, & won’t dry & tighten your skin like a typical mud mask - it will stay ‘wet’ because of the honey, but still draw out impurities while re-mineralizing & nourishing your face.
ingredients: hand harvested essex, ma marsh clay, orange blossom water, neroli essential oil, & our own essex MA honey
to use: scrub & steam face (optionally) before applying mask. a little goes a long way. spread all over face, be careful as it is sticky with the honey. let sit on face for anywhere from 10-30min. if you get a warming sensation, don’t be alarmed - honey will do that sometimes as its antimicrobial properties start working to stimulate the skin. rinse with warm water or a wet face towel
