General Dahlia Tuber Care

Storage

  • Keep between 45-55 degrees F

  • Do not let freeze or they turn to mush

  • If temps go above 55 degrees they may start to sprout, which is OK

  • Keep in the bag with the top open & shavings covering tubers

  • If you keep the bag closed, look out for condensation

  • If condensation appears, open the bag

Growing

  • Plant out mid to late May

  • 6” deep, tubers 1ft apart

  • Pinch once 6” tall for more blooms

Digging in Fall

  • After the first killing frost, you can dig up your tubers for storage

  • Cut down stalk to 6”, & use a fork, making a 1ft radius around the base

  • Gently loosen soil around tubers, freeing any soil at the crown

  • You do not need to wash tubers - they tend to keep better when unwashed

  • Can store as a clump in a cardboard box with pine shavings
